To all who post here...
The phone numbers 214-969-5489 and 415-656-1073 do not refer to any one single pay phone in any one single location. They are most likely outbound trunk numbers of the long distance companies used by the individual pay phones.

When someone makes a coin paid long distance call from most COCOT pay phones, the pay phone does NOT dial the destination number directly. Instead it dials a toll-free number, listens for a 2nd dialtone, then dials the destination number. By doing this, the company that operates the pay phone will get cheaper long distance rates, but a major side effect of dialing calls this way is that the number of the pay phone will NOT be sent as the Caller ID. Instead callers will receive a 'generic' number that often can not be called back.

Please accept the fact that these numbers (214-969-5489, 415-656-1073, etc.) only indicate a call from some pay phone somewhere, not a specific pay phone location.

I have been getting 3 annoying calls a day from 801-542-3991. It started with strange voice mails, then silence calls with static and typing in the background, some beeps. Here's a suggestion. FCC Consumer & Mediation Specialists are available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET to answer questions and assist in filing complaints. Call toll-free at 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) voice or 1-888-TELL- FCC (1-888-835-5322) TTY. Or, I used the website http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html to file mine. Good luck, let's try stop this non-sense.

When you answer it sounds like no one is there. If you call it back it says it is customer service but never gives you a name of the company and will transfer you to an agent but no one is ever there. all day the line said call back during normal business hours.Whats up with this number?

Pay Phone accepts incoming call, but when I press key pad there is no tone. So, I downloaded a tone generator to netbook and placed receiver next to speaker. The tones were not recognized by the calling telephone. (Tested tone generator on a 'home' phone and it worked. Did not dial a number, just generated the tones.)

I am trying to have an incoming call ring a pay phone, then answer on first ring, then press two numbers or generate two numbers to complete a verification process.

It is almost like the payphone will not allow any voice or tone to go out after an incoming call is answered. Am I missing something?

I've received calls from (408) 961-4961 this week and when answered a female voice says they are calling to confirm our internet yellow pages business name. The person says the name of our business and asks for confirmation. So far we've hung up. When we've dialed the number back we get a phone company message saying the "number is not in service". How is this possible?

That tone is the internal modem of the payphone. If you have the right software on your computer, you can call the payphone with your modem (dial-up type), and get the status of the phone, how much money is in the coin box, and other things.

I was called by bell payphone number (905) 828 9002 and they claimed to tell me that I was at risk of contracting some illness, as I had gone to a piercing place that was "not legitimate." First off, these people committed fraud by claiming they were health Canada, when it's peel health that deals with tattoo parlors. Secondly, they could not provide me with details that were legitimate and made sense to their story. If I could get the details on this pay phone's location I know a way of finding who called me.

I got a call from my boyfriend and the number (# 570-323-9607) came up on my phone as a payphone. I asked him about it and he said it was a phone he keeps in his car. We did get cut off and when I tried to call him back at that number it rang once or twice and then there was a loud shrill sound and cut off. I've tried locating that payphone just to see where he called from because in no time he showed up to pick me up. Any way to locate where that payphone is located? I've been to several locations and stopped to read the payphone numbers and none match. ke I said, in just a matter of a minute or two, he was there to pick me up. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

After Extensive Research I have determined that 305 is the defualt area code for Miami-Dade County and the part of Monroe County that is in the Keys. Both of these locations are in Florida. Hope this helps.

Here’s the problem. Twice now my girlfriend said she called me from a payphone after work. Both times when I dialed *69 it give me the same phone number. I then did a reverse look up of this phone number on 411locate.com. The website tells me that the phone number belongs to an apartment in Ocean Beach. This morning I asked my girlfriend about this and she insists that she called me from a payphone and not from someone’s apartment. I want to believe my girlfriend is telling me the truth. I received a disturbing call from a payphone recently, 360-354-0368 showd on my caller id. According to another website, http://www.everycall.us the caller was using a payphone. See this page. Does anyone know if you can track calls made from a payphone?

At last I can post my long awaited information concerning the inventor of the pay phone! William Gray was not the inventor of the pay phone. My great-grandfather Roy Noble was. Because he did not get a patent for his invention someone else did. When I was a child my grandmother (Roy's daughter) told me this. Roy worked for the phone company in Chicago and came up with this invention which was stolen from him because he failed to get a patent for his invention. This other person made loads of money that did not belong to him.

I received a telephone call from 251-947-8966 today and the person was very rude and now is calling me back every ten minutes. I want to figure out who called me so I can report them to the FCC and see if my phone company will block these harrassing calls.

If someone lift the receiver while you're connected to the payphone's modem, you'll be connected. Surprisingly I got connected repeatedly to the guy you'll on the webcam 2 or 3 times. I guess he was looking for a working (ready to call) payphone.
